The city of Margate Florida lies in the southern part of the state in Broward county and is considered a part of the Miami–Fort Lauderdale–Pompano Beach metro area.  This medium sized city had a population of 53,284 in an area of 9 square miles as of the 2010 census.  In addition to the population, these 9 square miles include nearly 105 acres of parkland.

Margate is bounded by Coral Springs to the East and Coconut Creek to the east.  It is located some 15 miles northwest of Fort Lauderdale and just 4 miles west of the Atlantic Ocean.  This makes it a quiet community, but gives easy access to both the cultural activities of the larger metro are as well as the well known nature activities of the beach and ocean.

Margate is a very green city and you will find a good portion of it consists of parks, lakes, canals and other green spaces.  The city limits also contain 2 challenging golf courses; the Carolina golf course in the northwestern corner of the city and the Oriole golf course just several blocks south.  There are also over a dozen small parks scattered throughout the city.

Getting around in Margate is easy, thanks to a citywide bus service that operates Monday through Friday from 7:20am until 4:30pm.  Of course the city is also quite pleasant to walk around, thanks to all of the green spaces, lakes and canals.  Visitors will have little trouble finding any of the restaurants of shopping areas in this well designed city.

The city is considered diverse with all age groups equally represented and a large proportion of the city being non native English speakers.  Nearly 15% of the population are native Spanish speakers, over 4% speak French or Creole French, and just over 1% are native Italian speakers.  This diversity gives Margate an added character and provides the city with a unique soul.
